Sustained Support for Informatics Technologies for Cancer Research and Management (U24 Clinical Trial Optional)

Nationwide

About

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) solicits applications for the continued development and sustainment of high value informatics research resources to improve the acquisition, management, analysis, and dissemination of data and knowledge across the cancer research continuum including cancer biology, cancer treatment and diagnosis, early cancer detection, risk assessment and prevention, cancer control and epidemiology. As a component of the NCI's Informatics Technology for Cancer Research (ITCR) Program, this NOFO is focused on sustaining operations and maintaining and evolving the scientific relevance of existing, widely-adopted informatics tools and resources. This is in contrast to early-stage and advanced development efforts to generate these tools and resources that will be supported by companion ITCR NOFOs. The central mission of ITCR is to promote research-driven informatics technology across the development lifecycle to address priority needs in cancer research. In order to be successful, the application must provide clear justification for why the research resource should be maintained and how it has benefited and will continue to benefit the cancer research field. In addition, mechanisms for assessing and maximizing the value of the resource to researchers and supporting close engagement between the resource and the targeted research community should be described. This NOFO invites applications to support the sustained operations of informatics technology resou.

The Sustained Support for Informatics Technologies for Cancer Research and Management (U24 Clinical Trial Optional) grant is designed for organizations and researchers operating established, widely-adopted informatics tools and resources that support cancer research across the entire research continuum—from cancer biology and treatment to early detection, risk assessment, prevention, and cancer control. This National Cancer Institute (NCI) grant opportunity funds the sustained operations, maintenance, and evolution of existing high-value informatics technologies rather than early-stage development. Applicants must demonstrate clear justification for continued support, document the research resource's impact on the cancer research field, and describe mechanisms for assessing value and maintaining engagement with the research community. This program is ideal for research institutions, universities, technology developers, and cancer research centers with established platforms that researchers actively use and depend upon. If your organization maintains a critical informatics resource that has proven its scientific relevance and community adoption in cancer research, this grant provides the financial support needed to ensure long-term sustainability and continued advancement of your platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for Sustained Support for Informatics Technologies for Cancer Research and Management (U24 Clinical Trial Optional)?

Eligible applicants include U.S. organizations and institutions conducting cancer research through established informatics technologies. Foreign organizations and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are also eligible to apply, including foreign collaborations and components as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement. For complete eligibility requirements, refer to Section III of the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) on the official NIH website.

How much funding does Sustained Support for Informatics Technologies for Cancer Research and Management (U24 Clinical Trial Optional) provide?

Funding ranges from $50,000 to $600,000. The specific award amount depends on the scope and requirements of your proposed informatics resource, the level of sustained operations needed, and the breadth of the research community served. Contact the NCI program officer or review the NOFO for guidance on budgeting your application.

What is the deadline for applying to this grant?

The deadline for this funding cycle is October 19, 2026. However, as with all NIH grants, deadlines may vary for future funding cycles. Check the official NIH RePORTER and NCI website for current and upcoming deadlines.

What can Sustained Support for Informatics Technologies for Cancer Research and Management (U24 Clinical Trial Optional) funding be used for?

Funding supports the sustained operations and maintenance of existing informatics tools and resources that improve data acquisition, management, analysis, and dissemination across cancer research. This includes evolving the scientific relevance of your platform, supporting ongoing technical infrastructure, personnel, and activities that maximize researcher engagement and resource value. The focus is on sustaining proven tools, not developing new ones from the ground up.

How do I apply for this NCI grant?

Applications are submitted through the NIH electronic submission system (eRA Commons/IMPACTA or Grants.gov). You must develop a detailed NOFO-compliant application that justifies why your informatics resource warrants continued support, demonstrates its impact on cancer research, and describes your community engagement strategy. Review the complete NOFO, consult with the NCI program officer, and allow adequate time for institutional approval before submission.
